GUATEMALA

We support various programs run by the Sisters:

· “Escuela Parroquial de Santa Cruz” (Holy Cross Parochial School), Barrillas, Huehuetenango

· “Centro Escolar Nuestra Señora de Concepción” (The Conception of Our Lady School), Escuentla

· “Escuela Diocesano de Santa Eulalia” (Diocesan Shool of Saint Eulalia), Santa Eulalia, Huehuetenango 

· “Hospital Diocesano” Jacaltenango (run by the Diocese of Jacaltenango)

· “Casa Regional”. Center for all activities in Central America for the Sisters of the Sacred Heart. Guatemala City. 

Upon visiting Guatemala, we were asked to help a school in Escuentla and we have done so. We have added two additional schools run by the Sisters in Guatemala to further help the children there. 

The schools in Barillas and Santa Eulalia are in Huehuetenango, which is a somewhat islolated part of Guatemala. The roads are bad and dangerous. The population is mostly indigenous and poor. The Sisters provide an opportunity for education to the very poor. We support their work by providing a way to pay for scholarships and to make improvements. Escuentla is a city that has a more modern atmosphere but the poor are also here and the Sisters provide education for them. We assist them by providing a way to pay for scholarships, maintenance and improvements. 

We have also started shipping to help a hospital run by the sisters in Jacatanango which is in an extremely poor area and very few patients have the funds to pay for the services that they receive. That puts an extreme financial strain on the institution. We help the Sisters by providing things that they need and things that they can sell to pay their expenses.

Besides being the main house for the Sisters in Central America, the Casa Regional in Guatemala City also serves as a place for old and sick Sisters as well as where the candidates for sisterhood begin their journey and religious education.
